Pet-Free Zone: Why Your Furry Friends Should Sit Out the Home Inspection

Here at First Shield Home Inspections, we are animal lovers at heart, but when it comes to conducting a home inspection, pets can quickly turn into unexpected obstacles. Imagine trying to inspect a home’s foundation with a curious cat weaving through your legs like it's an Olympic event. Or picture a determined dog who insists on supervising every move, offering enthusiastic but somewhat distracting "advice" in the form of barks and tail wags. Even the smallest critters, like a hamster on the loose, can turn a routine inspection into a game of hide and seek.

Now, let’s not forget the more exotic members of the pet family. A potbellied pig roaming the halls adds an entirely new level of excitement, especially when it decides to take a nap right where the inspector needs to check the floor joists. Birds are no better; they might serenade the inspector with a cacophony of squawks that make it difficult to distinguish between a noisy appliance and Polly’s rendition of the smoke alarm. And don’t even get started on the reptiles—a wandering iguana can certainly make the inspector question their career choices.

While home inspectors may adore animals, a thorough inspection (without the distraction of animals) is why we are there after all. A well-timed pig snort or a surprise encounter with a protective pup can turn a simple inspection into an unexpected adventure. So, for everyone’s sake, it’s best to keep your beloved critters safely tucked away during the inspection, unless, of course, you’re aiming to turn your home inspection into the most memorable one of the inspector’s career!
