A sewerscope is a critical process of inspecting the line from the access point to the city connection.  The technical term is 'Sewer Lateral Inspection.'  This is usually done through an access point at the front or side yard. Occasionally this may involve accessing from the roof or crawlspace

The PREFERRED OUTCOME is to reach the city connection, however the purpose of the scope is to determine the actual internal condition of the line.

Sometimes the city connection cannot be reached. Roots, shifting, or damaged pipes can all be seen through a sewer camera and this is often some of the best insurance when buying a home.

First Shield Home Inspections - Root Intrusion. This is one of the reasons why we always recommend a Sewer Inspection

Did you know that homeowners are
responsible for the sewer line up to the city connection?

It is highly recommended to get a sewer line inspection in addition to the property inspection.   You will receive a video link as well as detailed comments in the report.  If there are any repairs needed, you will be able to use the video and comments to speak with a contractor.   First Shield Home Inspections does not do repairs, so our opinion is unbiased.

The real purpose is not to reach the city connection.  The real purpose is to inspect the interior condition of the sewer pipe.  Most times, the city connection can be reached, however there are times when the conditions prohibit this, such as: root intrusion, major offsets, or line breaks.

If there are prohibitive conditions in your line, it's better to know about them before the purchase, possibly saving you thousands of dollars.
